Covid-19 Lockdown: Redeemer’s University Commences Online Classes

As part of its response to Covid-19 lockdown, the Management of Redeemer’s University recently directed all academic staff to start online classes for all its students of the institutions.

According to a statement from the Registrar, Mr. Olukayode Akindele, the university as a leader in smart learning deployment in its classrooms would take advantage of that to teach her teeming students during this protracted closure.

He stated that the University, which has always been a trailblazer as regards innovations in particular among its peers in the country, took it upon itself to enhance its IT applications to teaching and learning by implementing a Mobile Learning scheme since 2016.

This was achieved with the deployment of tablets and Learning Management System for all students and the procurement of electronic boards for teaching in all classrooms and lecture theatres.

Speaking on the e-learning solution, , Dr. Adewale Ogunde, he said that most of the lecturers were now enrolled and active on our e-learning platform, Learn. Some lecturers had also employed the use of some alternative free online applications and social media to complement the Learn application, especially for real-time audio-visual streaming and interactions.

Though Schools are closed down, learning is not closed in Redeemer’s University. Many students are able to download their lecture notes, submit assignments, take quizzes and interact with lecturers from their homes.

“The university management has provided quality leadership at this crucial period while the e-learning committee of the University is at the forefront of championing this course. Support emails and contact numbers were made available to students and staff to resolve complaints and challenges they might encounter during this period of online learning.

The e-learning team has resolved almost all complaints by both students and staff in Redeemer’s University”, he said.
