Scrap To Wealth - Gregory University Uturu Fabricates Charcoal- Fired Metal Furnace

The Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu Prof Augustine Uwakwe has charged Nigerian engineers to champion the good cause of industrial revolution in the country. 

Prof Uwakwe gave the admonition recently during the commissioning of a charcoal-fired mini metal furnace fabricated Gregory Universitythe College of Engineering.

Praising the ingenuity and proactivity of the college in providing the society with highly sought after engineering and technological solutions such as hybrid fuel-less generator and pedal By soap and water dispensing machine,he pledged the continous support of the university management to enable the college achieve more innovative inventions.

Speaking while presenting the new invention, Dean of Engineering,Prof Sociis Okoli stated that the College embarked on the fabrication as a way of achieving one of the core mandates of the university, which is skills and entrepreneurial development. He revealed that the charcoal-fired, low temperature mini metal melting furnace is best suited for melting non-ferrous metal scraps such as aluminium, copper, zinc, brass, bronze, silver, gold, lead and tin.

According to Prof Okoli, the furnace is both portable and affordable having the potential to provide employment to Nigerian youths.He averred that one of the many advantages of the new equipment is its capacity to help reduce environmental pollution Gregory Universityrecycling abandoned metal scraps. He therefore requested industrialists and corporate Nigeria to partner the university in the task of mass producing the equipment. 

It will be recalled that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gregory University Uturu has continued to pioneer innovative inventions both as a way of mitigating the harsh effects of the scourge and as a means of providing engineering solutions to societal problems.
