ITF Awards Alex Ekwueme VC For Human Resources Development

On Thursday, 25th August, 2020, Assistant Director and Head of Training, Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Abakaliki Area Office, Mrs Chioma Egbobe, accompanied by some other officers of the Fund and AE-FUNAI SIWES, called on the Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba, to appreciate him for the good work he is doing in the university and present award of excellence to him for best performance in Human Resources Development.

While making the presentation, Mrs Egbobe revealed that Prof Nwajiuba was nominated and unanimously approved for the award after the evaluation process carried out by ITF Abakaliki Area Office sometime in the year, at which Prof Nwajiuba came out best among others, in Human Resources Development, commending VC for his vision to transform the University to a garden, which has been made manifest in the Green Initiative that has brought about  planting of assorted trees all over the University campus. 

The Assistant Director passionately appealed for continuous support for the Fund by way of regular posting of staff and students for ITF training programmes and then presented 2020 ITF Programme Brochure and other documents to VC.

Receiving the award, Prof Nwajiuba thanked his guests for finding him worthy of the award and for the efforts ITF is putting into students and youth training and development, asserting that one key technique in training the Igbo child is storytelling and that the importance of this method in achieving proper upbringing in the Igbo child cannot  be over emphasized.

MR MALECHI MAKING PRESENTATION

Prof Nwajiuba informed the visitors that recently he has been dealing with the training of Igbo male child, which he said has not been given adequate attention when compared to girl child education and as such the typical boy in the present Igbo society is confused and in drugs. According to him, “In the business of livelihood, we have successfully trained the girls, thinking that well, may be the girls actually thought they are being badly trained – to keep them in the house, they are more likely to know that mum struggles to find food for people to eat. They see the pressure the family is passing through more than the boys… 

The boys are busy playing football”. He buttressed his argument with the point that “In the last four years, 90% of best grades in convocation were female…90% in Osun State, Nigeria, of best in programmes”.

DR ADEOLU, AG. DIR SIWES, SPEAKING

VC reiterated that SIWES as well as entrepreneurship in the university should be held tenaciously, given that the oil money is over; so that when one is out from school, he or she will have something doing as it is no longer realistic to keep searching or waiting for white collar jobs.

PROF NWAJIUBA DISPLAY THE AWARD

Prof Nwajiuba affirmed that “Our university is the most serious public university in Nigeria” , praying that the standard set in the university will not go down and the record  set and put straight as guideline for more work. “Let this vision of a serious institution not die for the sake of our children and posterity”, Prof Nwajiuba stressed. He assured the ITF officials that the University will continue to support the FUND by sending staff and students for the training programmes regularly.

Other ITF officers in the visiting team were Mr Emmanuel Osah, Head, Administration and Human Resources, and Chukwuma Malechi, TDO/SIWES Schedule Officer, while Dr. A.I Adeolu, Ag. Director, SIWES and Mr Dike Onyedikachi, Administrative Officer, made AE-FUNAI team.
